My Role
My role, as a designer, has many responsibilities that included research and conceptualization. I was tasked with creating my own advertising poster and I chose to do an event poster, advertising a dance performance. Most of the inspiration came from the fact that I used to be part of a dance program throughout my high school years and we would advertise our dance performances to our friends, family, and community.
The Challenges
Creating the visual identity for the event "Sparks" posed several challenges that demanded something to convey motion within a static medium. Visually interpreting the abstract concept of "Sparks" in a way that relates to dance and resonates with the audience and the theme. Not only that but ensuring the design works well in various sizes, from large posters to small flyers or digital thumbnails.
The Problem
The challenge was to create an event poster that would effectively capture the essence of the chosen event. I chose to do a dance perfomance that would stand out in a crowded advertising space. However, the design needed to convey the energy and dynamism of dance, appeal to a diverse audience, and clearly communicate essential event information. Additionally, the poster had to align with the dance studio's brand identity while pushing creative boundaries to reflect the innovative nature of the performance.
The Solution
To overcome these design challenges, I made sure to incorporate visual dynamics by using fluid, abstract shapes, and lines to represent movement and dance, creating a sense of energy and motion within a static image. Using a vibrant color pallete, like red, yhellow and blue, evokes feelings of excitement and passion associated with the 'Sparks' theme, allowing the poster to stand out. Additionally, I structured the layout to guide the viewer's eye from the striking visual elements to the crucial event details, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and information clarity.
